33 Degrees?!?

What is going on this year? According to Weather.com, the overnight low was 33 degrees — my thermometer tells me it was 30.3 in my backyard — and its now up to a whopping 44 windy, grey, rainy, horrible degrees out there.

I realize that rain is good, and that we live in a desert, but I’m tired of being cold! I want to plant my peppers and eggplants. I want to build my new tomato trellis. I want to be warm and enjoy my backyard and invite people over for fun barbecues … I’m sure it has to get wam sometime, right? Summer has to come sooner or later, right? Right?

I'm a writer and editor based in Livingston, Montana. I moved to Livingston from the San Francisco Bay area in 2002 in search of affordable housing and a small community with a vibrant arts community. I found both. LivingSmall details my experience buying and renovating a house, building a garden, becoming a part of this community. It also chronicles my efforts to rebuild my life after the sudden death of my younger brother, and closest companion, Patrick in a car wreck.

  1. We’ve been SO cold here (Portland, OR) for the past 10 days or so; we’re finally supposed to start getting some warming tomorrow, I hope that means it’s on the way to you soon too. I know what you’re going through. And I bit the bullet and planted my peppers already, but I’ve already lost one of the plants and the others have stood stock still for the past several weeks, just waiting for the warm weather to get busy growing I guess.

  2. We’ve been horribly hot in NC – this is the first day in a few that we haven’t been kissing 100. In June. When we should be in the mid-80s, at the most.

Something is horribly out of whack this year.

  3. Ok, the sad thing is I thought you meant degrees C, and I figured you were having a heat wave, like everyone else I know!

Sorry to hear about the cold. 🙁
